In Loving Memory of Travis SledgeJerry Travis Sledge, 50, of Cleveland, passed away on Thursday July 23. Born on January 10, 1976 to Jerry Sledge and Linda Bell Tolbert, he grew up with dreams, talents, and a life full of possibilities. Those who knew Travis before addiction remember his sense of humor, love of music, ability to make people laugh, his ability to build things and adventurous spirit that reflected who he was. For much of the last eighteen years, Travis lived with methamphetamine addiction—a devastating illness that profoundly changed the course of his life. Addiction took much from Travis, including opportunities, relationships, and years that can never be reclaimed. It also brought immeasurable heartache to the family and friends who loved him and never stopped hoping for recovery. Though addiction became part of Travis's story, it was not the whole story. He remained someone's child, sibling, parent, friend, and loved one. Those who grieve today do so while carrying both cherished memories and the pain that addiction leaves behind. May Travis's life serve as a reminder that methamphetamine addiction is a devastating disease that affects not only the individual but everyone who loves them. If sharing this story encourages even one person to seek help or one family to hold onto hope, then some good may come from this loss. Travis is survived by his son Conner Sledge and daughter Carmen Quintanilla with her husband Hunter Quintanilla, sisters Lela Maddux and Patsy Sledge, several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his Father Jerry Sledge and Mother Linda Bell Tolbert. A visitation will be held on Friday, July 31,beginning at 1:00 p.m.-3:00 p.m. at Buckner & Fike. Graveside will be following at Tasso United Methodist Cemetery with Pastor Stan Gibson officiating.  In lieu of flowers, the family encourages donations to an organization that supports addiction recovery or asks that you reach out to someone who may be struggling and remind them that help is available.
