Robert Eugene "Gene" Strickland

Robert Eugene “Gene” Strickland, 76, of Cleveland, passed away Tuesday, January 21, 2020 at his residence.  A native and lifelong resident of Bradley County he was a veteran of the United States Army.  Gene served in the 101^st Airborne Screaming Eagles and served during Vietnam.  He was an avid bowler, a member of the Rainbow Riders square dance team and loved classic cars. 

He was preceded in death by his parents, James Robert Strickland and Margaret Sewell Strickland; and four brothers, Marion Harold Strickland, McKinley Carl Strickland, Thomas Lee Strickland and James “David” Strickland.

Survivors include his wife, Martha Shipman Strickland of Cleveland; children, Charlie (Debbie) Strickland of Birchwood and Genna (Mike Newman) Strickland and Sonny Strickland, all of Cleveland; grandchildren, Kayla (Cameron) Brown, Tahnie Strickland, Myrakle Strickland, Colton Wilson and Chris Strickland; great grandson, Trenton Brown; brothers, Curtis (Diane) Strickland of Cleveland and Randy Strickland of Panama City, Florida; stepchildren, Paul Burk and Jimmy Burk, both of Cleveland and Loretta Warnack of Chatsworth, GA; and several nieces and nephews.

The service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, January 24, 2020 in the chapel of Serenity of Cleveland Funeral Home with Pastor Jimmy Lewis officiating.  Interment will be held at 12:30 p.m. in Chattanooga National Cemetery with military honors.                        

His family will receive friends from 10:00-11:00 a.m. on Friday at the funeral home prior to the service.
