Mitchell “Mitch” Harris, born on August 2, 1961, in Chattanooga, passed away on August 11, 2026. Throughout his 65 years, Mitchell lived a life marked by deep love for his family, unyielding faith, and enduring loyalty to his roots and his teams, the Georgia Bulldogs and Atlanta Braves.
Mitchell’s devotion to those closest to him was evident in every aspect of his life. He cherished his beloved wife, Sophie Harris, whose partnership brought him great joy and strength throughout the years. As a guiding presence to his step-son, Corey Smitty, Mitchell’s kindness and wisdom. He deeply loved and and is survived by his siblings Patricia (Tommy) Whittemore, Tina (Jeff) Chastain, Max (Gail) Harris and Janice Stanfield, his aunt Judy McAuley and his many cousins, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his cherished daughter, Lauren Harris, whose memory remained close to his heart. He is also preceded in death by his beloved mother Frances Lea and his father James “Buddy” Harris.
Mitchell dedicated part of his career to serving at the Bradley County Jail, where his strong values and sense of duty left a positive impact on both colleagues and the wider community.
Family and friends are invited to honor Mitchell’s life during a visitation on Sunday, August 16, 2026, from 1:00 p.m.-3:00 p.m. with a funeral service beginning at 3:00 p.m. in the chapel of Buckner & Fike. A burial will follow at Fort Hill Cemetery.
Mitchell Harris’s kindness, steadfast faith, and love for his family will be dearly missed and fondly remembered.
