Joann
Beatty
d. Jul 28, 2026
Onancock, VA
Joann Smith Beatty, 87, entered her heavenly home on July 28, 2026, after an eleven-year journey with Alzheimer’s disease. She was born on August 22, 1938, in Covington, Louisiana to her parents, Homer and Olga Vaughn Malcham Smith.
Joann was a devoted wife, loving mother, treasured Mawmaw, faithful pastor’s wife, and a friend to everyone she met. She dedicated her life to caring for her family, serving alongside her husband in ministry for 56 years, and encouraging others with her gentle spirit and unwavering faith. While David played the piano and sang, she was faithfully always at the organ playing and singing harmony alongside him.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, David Henry Beatty, who passed away in 2016. Together they shared a life filled with love, faith, and adventure. They traveled extensively throughout the United States, visiting every state, and enjoyed cruising to destinations around the world, creating memories that would last a lifetime.
Joann found her greatest joy in her family, especially her 3 grandchildren, Christopher, Brittany, and Abbigail, and her 4 great grandchildren, who brought endless happiness to her life. She never missed an opportunity to make someone feel loved. Whether she was checking in to see how someone was doing, offering words of encouragement, or complimenting someone with her sincere kindness, Joann had a remarkable gift for making people feel seen and valued. Her compassion, warmth, and genuine interest in others left a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to know her.
She is survived by her loving children, Phillip David Beatty and Angela Beatty Anderson. She is also survived by her brothers, Clint Smith and Johnney Smith.
She was preceded in death by her sisters, Teresa, Billie, Mary, and Jean, as well as her beloved husband, David Beatty.
Although Alzheimer’s slowly stole many of her memories, it never diminished the love she planted in the hearts of those around her. Her legacy of faith, kindness, generosity, and unconditional love will continue to live on through her family and all whose lives she touched.
Joann will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and forever cherished. While our hearts grieve her absence, we find comfort in knowing she is now fully healed and reunited with the love of her life and resting peacefully in the presence of her Savior.
