Obituary


Jerry Johns, 76, of Cleveland, Tennessee, passed away peacefully at his home on July 24, 2026, surrounded by his loving family.

Born on October 28, 1949, in Chicago, Illinois, Jerry was the son of Thomas Johns and Hazel Nelms Johns, both of whom preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by his siblings Roy Wilson, Claude Wilson, Hoyle Wilson and Thomas "Tommy" Johns.

Jerry proudly served his country for many years before retiring from military service where he was highly decorated.  His dedication, honor, and commitment to his nation reflected the same values he carried throughout his life as a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend. During his career, he received, Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, Army Good Conduct, National Defense Service, Vietnam Campaign, Vietnam Service, Noncommissioned Officer Professional Development Medal. He went onto receive Vinson CRS, Tactical Communication CRS, NCO CRS, Primary Leadership Development CRS as well as Single Channel Radio Operator. 

Left to cherish his memory are his beloved wife, Arlene Jenkins Johns; his children, John Johns, Lisa Bard, and Bryan Johns; his grandchildren, Conner Johns, Destiny Johns, Sarah Pritts, and Matthew Pritts; siblings, Annette Parker and Ralph Potter. His seven great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends survive.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, July 29, from 12:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. at Buckner & Fike Funeral Home. A chapel service will follow at 2:00 p.m., with Pastor Scott Martin officiating, followed by interment at New Friendship Cemetery in Cleveland. Sgt. First Class Johns will be escorted by the Cleveland Police Department and the Marching Platoon from Fort Campbell, followed by full military honors at the graveside in recognition of Jerry's faithful and devoted service to his country.

Jerry's family is in the care of Buckner & Fike Funeral Home and Cremation.
