Henry Joseph Scalla
Henry Joseph Scalla, 81, of McDonald, Tennessee, passed away peacefully at his home on July 5, 2026, surrounded by his loving family.
Born on September 7, 1944, in Ardmore, Oklahoma, Henry was the son of Henry Joseph Scalla Sr. and Anna Scalla, both of whom preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by his beloved wife, Dorothy Ann Scalla.
A proud patriot, Henry honorably served his country in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam era, attaining the rank of Senior Airman. His military service reflected the dedication, integrity, and commitment that he carried throughout his life.
Henry was a man of deep faith whose greatest joy was his family. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend. His kindness, steady presence, and unwavering love will be treasured by all who knew him.
He leaves behind to cherish his memory his children, Michael Scalla (Kellie), Angela Scalla Johnson (Scott), and Matthew Scalla (Melissa Rose); his grandchildren, Gabrielle Cartwright (Brady) Jared Scalla (Kili) Chandler Scalla, Gage Johnson, Gehrig Johnson, Rachel Anne Scalla, and Collin Scalla; his great-grandchildren, Leilah Cartwright, Amiyah Cartwright, Lily Scalla, Peyton Scalla, Ramsey Smith, and Cannon Scalla; his brother, Edward Scalla; numerous nieces and nephews; and his beloved Golden Retrievers, Teddy and Maggie, who were faithful companions throughout his later years.
The family will receive friends on Monday, July 13, 2026, from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Buckner & Fike Funeral Home and Cremation Services.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, July 14, 2026, at 12:00 noon at St. Therese Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Chattanooga National Cemetery with full military honors, including the playing of bagpipes.
Serving as pallbearers will be Collin Scalla, Jared Scalla, Gage Johnson, Michael Scalla, Matthew Scalla, and Scott Johnson.
Henry's legacy of faith, service, and unconditional love for his family will continue to live on in the hearts of all who were blessed to know him.
