Emma Lou Ferguson,100, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Tuesday, July 21st, 2026.
Born on May 9, 1926, in Sevier County, Tennessee, Emma was the daughter of Arthur and Sophie Ownby, both of whom preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her precious son, Larry Ferguson; her beloved grandson, Don Foster; and her siblings, Ethel Ownby, Velma McKnight, Becky Seaborn, Clell Ownby, and Verlis Ownby.
Emma made her home in Bradley County for most of her life, where she became known for her generous heart and exceptional cooking. She found great joy in feeding others, and no one ever left her table hungry. A devoted Christian, Emma loved the Lord with all her heart and cherished her family above all else. She faithfully lived out her faith by serving others, always willing to lend a helping hand to family, friends, and even strangers. She truly embodied the hands and feet of Christ and was a faithful member of Savannah Bay Baptist Church.
Left to cherish her memory are her loving children, Patricia Johnson, Brenda Hawkins, Randell and Carol Ferguson, and Wanoka and Joseph Brown. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Shawn Holmes, Steve Ferguson, Karen King, Lisa Hamby, Gwen Compton, Jeremy Cheek, Adam Ferguson, Mitchell Ferguson, Besheia Christian, and Shemayah Heron; seven great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; her sisters, Hettie Copeland and Lena Elliott; and a host of beloved nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, July 23, from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. in the chapel of Buckner & Fike Funeral Home and Cremation. A funeral service celebrating Emma's life will be held on Friday, July 24, at 11:00 a.m. in the funeral home chapel.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude for the love, prayers, and support shown during this time. Emma's legacy of unwavering faith, selfless love, and servant's heart will continue to inspire all who were blessed to know her.
