Joseph "Joe" D. Lane, 81, of Cleveland, passed away Monday, February 24, 2014 in a Chattanooga hospital. He served in the United States Navy during the Korean conflict. Joe was a retired truck driver. He was of the Baptist faith. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jim Lyde Lane and Viola Lane; wife, Shirley Maddux Lane; and son, Max Lane. Survivors include his children, Tim Lane and wife, Katy of Illinois and Cheryl Lane Chavis and her fiance', Brian Bettis of Cleveland; grandchildren, Mallory Lane and fiancé, Greg Carter of Hixson and Adam Lane and wife, Jill of Illinois, and Brianna Bettis of Cleveland; great grandchildren, Dara Lane and Griffin Lane, both of Illinois; brothers, Cecil Lane of Cleveland and Tommy Lane of Burns, TN; sister, Lila Grace Philpott of Georgia; several nieces and nephews; and a host of friends. A graveside service will be held at Hilcrest Memorial Gardens Thursday, February 27, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. with a white dove release ceremony concluding the service.
